I am a fan of Disney, I joined the princess bandwagon when I first saw The Little Mermaid. I did love Sleeping beauty as a kid. In the last couple years I have been wanting to do a Tinker bell costume. I felt she was most appropriate for my body type. When I got invited to TNT Comic convention in Mexico City, they asked me if I had any Disney costumes that I would want to wear for their Disney themed day, the Tinkerbell slot had already been taken. I thought about being Meg, or Jane.. nah, none of the other princess I could really pull off. I had always loved Snow Whites outfit, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the movie, something about the voice. |

I was really good about documenting this costume, since I had a hard and fast deadline. Finding the right fabrics I felt was the Key, I looked a lot to the Ann Leibovitz photoshoots. I opted for Ultra Suedes for the top, a scretch velvet for the skirt and cape, which was a BAD idea, but it as the color I wanted. Then a Duchess satin for the sleeve inserts and lining of the cape.
Since I didn't like the snow white simplicity pattern I had purchased, it was all patterned from scratch, Sean helped me with some of the math on the patterns but other then that it was all done myself.
Headband: Just created a little satin pillowcase for my headband and then made a disney-esque bow!
Collar: Went through a couple version trying to get it to be very stiff, at one point I had put boning in it but you could see the shadow of the plastic boning through the fabric. The final version has interfacing sandwiched between muslin and the final fabric. with a lip that slides underneath that has snapes. Since these photos, I have found some fabric with Snow flake on it and added lace trim around it. This is a great outfit that you can keep adding too, and as long as the silhoutte and the colors read like the classic Snow White, you can go crazy!
Corset: Based it loosely on a elizabethian style corset. Since that what it seemed the dressed might have been inspired by. Its a little more low cut in the front then might be family friendly, but the cloak covers cover all that. Its complely boned and lined.
Sleeves: A custom slash sleece pattern. A smaller insert sleeve was done in the satin, then a slightly larger suede sleeve was placed over top then they were attached together.
Skirt: Done in a mustard stretch velvet. Tubed skirt with pleats. Also includes a cream lining.
Cape: Stretch Velvet
lined with satin, have to double side interface these to things together because Stretch and non stretch obviously don't play well together, for ease of putting on and off I did it as one piece, with a snap that is under the bow part. Tack stitched some wrinkles.. BLAMMO disney cape.
Petticoat & Shoes: Purchased, Petticoat was bought and altered.
